Frequently Asked Questions

At Pure Engineering LLC, we machine an extensive range of materials to meet diverse industrial requirements. For metals, we regularly work with aluminum alloys (including 6061 and 7075), various grades of stainless steel (303, 304, 316), titanium, brass, and copper. Our plastic machining capabilities include engineering-grade materials like ABS, Nylon, PEEK, Delrin, PTFE, and polycarbonate. We also handle exotic materials such as Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy, and Kovar for specialized applications. If you have specific material requirements not mentioned here, our engineering team can evaluate its machinability and provide recommendations.

Our standard machining tolerance is ±0.0005 inches (0.0127 mm), which meets the needs of most industrial applications, and we can achieve tolerances using our advanced CNC equipment and specialized processes. The actual achievable tolerance depends on several factors, including part size, geometric complexity, material properties, and production volume. During the design review phase, our engineering team will evaluate your specifications and recommend the most cost-effective tolerance strategy that ensures functional performance while optimizing manufacturability.

We accept all major CAD file formats to ensure seamless processing of your design data using Solid Cam manufacturing. For 3D models, we prefer STEP (stp) or IGES (.igs) files as they are universally compatible, but we can also work with native formats like SolidWorks (.sldprt) ,Parasolid (.x_t) and DWG File format . For 2D technical drawings, PDF, DWG, or DXF formats are ideal. To provide the most accurate quote and avoid potential misunderstandings, we recommend submitting both the 3D model and a 2D drawing with all critical dimensions, tolerances, surface finish requirements, and any special notes clearly specified. Our engineers can also work with sketches or conceptual designs if you're in the early stages of development.

Our standard lead times are structured to balance speed with quality. Prototype orders typically ship within 3-5 business days from approval of the quote, allowing for rapid iteration and testing. For low-volume production runs of 1-50 pieces, we generally require 1-2 weeks depending on the complexity of the parts and current shop workload. Larger production quantities of 50+ pieces typically take 2-4 weeks. We understand that some projects can't wait, which is why we offer expedited services - our 24-hour and 72-hour rush services are available for urgent prototypes, though additional fees may apply. During the quoting process, we'll always provide a clear timeline for your specific project.

Yes, we offer comprehensive surface finishing services to meet both functional and aesthetic requirements. Our mechanical finishing options include bead blasting for uniform matte surfaces, tumbling for edge breaking and smoothing, and precision polishing for mirror-like finishes. For coatings, we provide Type II and Type III anodizing for aluminum components, various plating services (including nickel and chrome), and durable powder coating in a wide range of colors. We also perform special treatments like passivation for stainless steel, heat treatment for stress relief or hardness improvement, and various other surface enhancements. Our team can recommend the most suitable finishing process based on your component's material, application environment, and performance requirements.

Quality is integral to our manufacturing process at every stage. We begin with First Article Inspection (FAI) that includes a comprehensive dimensional report comparing actual measurements to your drawing specifications. During production, our quality technicians perform in-process checks at critical stages using calibrated equipment. Final inspection utilizes coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for complex geometries, optical comparators for profile verification, and surface roughness testers where required. We maintain full material certification and traceability throughout the process. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer, we adhere to rigorous quality management systems, and for aerospace components, we comply with AS9100 standards. Every shipment includes appropriate certification documentation based on your requirements.
